Committees

Two different "committee" layers exist. Do not mix them.

National party committees (live)#

Each party elects a national committee of up to 6 members. Elections run 168 turns. Each voter may support up to 6 candidates. Top six vote-getters are seated.

This is party infrastructure: the committee sits on the party, not in a legislative chamber. Candidacy and voting are party-scoped. See Party Leadership.

Chamber committee chairs (leadership)#

Congressional leadership copy treats committee chairs as assigned or elected inside the relevant committee, alongside Speaker and floor leaders. See Congress Leadership. That is chamber hierarchy, not the national party committee election above.

Bill committee stage (not live)#

Bills do not currently stop in committee for markup before the floor. Whip and floor votes are the live path. See Bills & Legislation and Voting & Whips.
